The William J. von Liebig Student Award

Students wishing von Liebig support for summer research should consult with faculty mentors to identify appropriate projects.  It is understood that students might be applying for several opportunities at once, and the student is not obligated to accept a von Liebig award.  The student application will consist of a brief description of the project to be conducted and the student’s qualifications for doing the research.  In general the student will apply in concert with a faculty member and the award will be made to the faculty member.  Applications are due February 1.  If the student decides to accept a different offer, the faculty member may replace the student with a different one by informing the von Liebig committee of the replacement.  The new student must also submit an application.

Students must complete safety training, and the mentors must fill out the safety survey, before either student or faculty is paid.

Students who have been awarded a Student Award will be expected to submit a report of the summer activities by September 15.  Failure to do so will impact the success of future applications by themselves and their mentor.

Approved by von Liebig Committee February 10, 2006.
